Headsails

The Foresail has a more demanding life than any other sail so we take great care with the design, the selection of materials and with the construction to produce a robust sail that sets well.

Each sail is shaped, cut and assembled to give performance and a long life with special attention being paid to the seams and reinforcing the areas of stress and point loading.

Hanked Foresail

The features of the sail are:
  • Designed using computers and the most up to date software.

  • Cross cut to reduce stretch by laying the major thread line along the heaviest load lines.

  • Layered reinforcing at the head, tack and clew area.

  • Pre-stretched terylene luff rope.

  • Hydraulically pressed stainless steel rings at the head, tack and clew.

  • Brass piston hanks with reinforced attachment points and chafing protectors.

  • Glued seams, shaped and sewn with UV thread.

  • Leather sheathing around the clew.

  • Leech line and cleat are standard fittings.

Furling Headsails

The furling headsail has a more demanding life than any other sail so we take great care with the design, the selection of materials and the construction to produce a sail that sets well under all conditions.

We design the luff of the sail to ensure that an efficient set is maintained when either fully set or partly furled.

The sails are designed using computers and the most up to date software, data and techniques available in the industry.

The design, once finalised is transferred to a computer controlled plotter which plots the panels directly on to the sail cloth.

Cross Cut

The features of the sail are:
  • Cross cut to reduce stretch by laying the major thread line along the heaviest load lines.
  • Layered reinforcing at the head, tack and clew areas are fitted to absorb and spread the point loadings more efficiently into the sail.
  • Glued seams shaped carefully and sewn with UV thread.
  • Heavy webbing fitted at the head and tack.
  • Mono-filament polypropylene luff rope is fitted to suit the particular furling gear specification.
  • UV protective cover fitted to the leech and foot is recommended.
  • Leather sheathing around the clew with a pressed stainless ring.
  • Leech line and cleat are standard fittings.
  • Foam luff insert can be fitted if required by the customer.

Bi Radial Cut

The features of the sail are:
  • Bi-radial cut designed to reduce stretch by laying the radial panels and hence the major thread line along the heaviest load lines.
  • Fan type reinforcing at the head, tack and clew areas are fitted to absorb and spread the point loadings more efficiently into the sail.
  • Glued seams shaped carefully and sewn with UV thread.
  • Heavy webbing fitted at the head and tack.
  • Mono-filament polypropylene luff rope is fitted to suit the particular furling gear specification.
  • A sacrificial UV protective cover fitted to the leech and foot is recommended.
  • Leather sheathing around the clew with a pressed stainless ring.
  • Leech line and cleat are standard fittings.
  • Foam luff insert can be fitted if required by the customer.
